Band White Gold
I have a White Gold Band and it is fading to yellow gold. Is there something cheap I can do to fix it?
All gold is an alloy, or mix, of different metals. 24 carat gold is too soft for rings, so most rings are 10-18 carat gold. Yellow gold rings are mixed with a golden metal, like copper and white gold rings are mixed with a white metal. The gold in your white gold ring is mixed with palladium or nickel to make it white. The gold in the ring is still yellow gold. White gold is naturally a soft yellowish color, but jewelers plate the jewelry with rhodium to make it really white like platinum.
All you need to do is take your ring to a jeweler to get it replated with rhodium. It is really easy and costs about $35. Most white gold needs to be plated about once every 6-12 months, depending on how much you wear the ring. White gold is always naturally a little yellow under the plating, and the plating wears off. If you want a really white look that doesn't need replating, you have to go with expensive platinum.
Your ring should look awesome once it is cleaned and replated.
