Diamond Studs White
Why do I get different treatment with 2 Carat Diamond Studs?
I can't really believe I am on here asking this question but...I recently turned 30 and my mom bought me a pair of 2 Carat Diamond Stud earrings. I am allergic to white gold so they were set in platinum. Also, the jeweler set they high up so they look bigger than they are. Anyways, I notice that people treat me differently when I wear them. I am charged more at restaurants and treated better when I go forr personal services i.e. manicure pedicure. My mom was born and raised in Bryn Mawr, Pa and wanted to get me a very classy gift. I love the earrings but have noticed people act differently towards me. I haven't worn the earring in about 2 months. I know they are only 2 carats total weight but why do people judge you on earrings alone?
It's part of the mentality in working in a service-oriented profession. Body language and the way a person dresses will affect how you are treated. This is especially true when the employee gets a commission. If it looks like you can afford it or that you show interest in something, they'll approach you and try to sell something to you. If you look like you're just browsing, they won't waste their time or effort on a no-sale.
It even happens in professions of service where nothing is sold, such as a customer service counter desk. We are more willing to help the person who is dressed better. In my experience, the poorly dressed people usually seem crazy, but the people who take the time and effort to dress seem more sane and intellectual.
I know you shouldn't judge someone by their looks, but in the world where your salary is affected (commission) or where you'll get yelled at (customer service), the employee will choose who he/she thinks will be a better customer to deal with. It's like driving...you'd rather get behind a nice-looking car than a crappy car, because the nice-looking car is more likely driven by someone who enjoys cars, and thus won't drive 15 mph under the speed limit.
