How do I give hints to my boyfriend on the type of engagement ring I want?
So he already proposed twice and I said yes, twice. We just know we're meant for each other. However, we're taking things slow right now so he said he'll keep the engagement rings hidden when we're ready...but he allowed me to see the rings he was going to give me and none of them were diamonds. I didn't have the heart to tell him that's not what I wanted. It sounds materialistic but I don't own any expensive jewelery and think an engagement ring should have a diamond. I really like something like....a nice princess cut solitaire diamond with white gold. lol. :p Ok that's really specific. I already sent him an anonymous email through Zales. What else can I do?
Either you stop hinting and you tell him bluntly OR you keep quiet and you accept whatever he gets you. I know of very few men who actually manage to realise what girls were hinting about and most of them honestly prefer it when girls are upfront and honest with them.
But if he's already got the rings then you need to walk carefully, he's probably put a lot of thought into the rings and he thinks that you'll love them. You need to tell him that it's not your taste in a way that won't hurt his feelings or make him feel inadequate. And if you're taking things slow then maybe you should get a Cubic Zirconia for now and upgrade to a diamond when you're a bit more settled (like for a 10th anniversary).
You could just say to him at dinner one night "I saw a solitaire diamond ring today on one of the girls at work and I'm surprised at how much I really liked it"; or when you're looking through a magazine or those endless junk mail pamphlets and you see a ring you like you point it out to him as being a really nice ring; or if you walk past a jewellery shop stop and look in the windows and point out the ones you like.
If you want to be really blunt then tell him that you love the rings he's gotten you but now that you've had time to think about it you think that you'd like to have a say in your engagement ring. And then remember to give him a say in his wedding band, it's only fair.
