Should I insure my diamond ring?
My husband bought me a 1.55 princess Cut Diamond Ring. It is AGS certified, ideal cut, G in color, and SI2 clarity. The setting is also an additional .6 CT. Anyway, we're going to have it appraised, and I was wondering if I should insure my diamond ring? Has anyone ever done this, and if so, how do I go about it and what will the insurance cover? I don't own a home nor do I have renters' insurance.

With those specs the stone is probably about $10,000+ if it is well-porportioned and the setting is even more. Don't you have the appraisal papers from where he purchased it?

I would not wear mine uninsured.
PS: A jewelers will not insure against loss. It is only for damage/protection of the stone itself and the setting. If you lose it you are SOL. Although , I think on mine , if they find a prong broke or something and that caused me to lose my diamond they would replace it. Irregardless, I am covered with homeowners insuarnce. There should be someplace to insure fine jewelry, google it.
