question about sterling silver?
just recently , like two months ago, my boyfriend got me a sterling silver ring. I dont wear it much because i worry that it might get ruined, so i only wear it when i go out. It seemedd to be doing fine but just this morning i looked at the inside of the band and a little strip of it is a lighter color than the rest and not as shiny.it wasnt like that before.im not sure what caused this but could this be it, i went to the beach two days ago and put the ring in a pocket in my purse which had change in it, like pennys and dimes. or could it be that i used victorias secret lotion and that damaged it?
oh and i tried using toothpaste but it didnt make it go away. and yes, this is sterling silver. my boyfriend got it from zales and i read the description online
Sounds like the silver was platinum plated. This is a common finish on silver jewellery and white gold jewellery - it gives a whiter, shinier and brighter appearance. It also protects the silver from tarnishing.
You could probably get it re-plated, though it may cost a bit!
